ISLAMABAD: Nepra is reported to have notified ‘relief’ of just one paisa per unit for power consumers. Electricity consumers across Pakistan, including K-Electric, will see their bills reduced by a mere Rs 0.0102 per unit for March 2026, according to a notification issued by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Tuesday.
The reduction, which translates to just over one paisa per kilowatt-hour, comes under the monthly fuel charges adjustment (FCA) mechanism. Nepra’s notification, S.R.O. 801(I)/2026 dated May 5, 2026, stated that the actual national average uniform Fuel Cost Component for March stood at Rs 7.9850/kWh against the reference charge of Rs 7.9950/kWh.
This resulted in a “National Avg. Uniform FCA for March 2026 – Decrease” of Rs0.0102/kWh, the document said.
What it means for consumers
For a household consuming 300 units a month, the so-called relief amounts to Rs3.06 on the entire bill. Even for a user consuming 1,000 units, the saving would be just Rs10.20.
In light of federal policy guidelines, the adjustment will also apply to consumers of K-Electric for the same period, the notification added.
The negligible cut stands in sharp contrast to earlier reports that consumers could get a “major relief of Rs63.94 billion” following petitions by distribution companies for quarterly tariff adjustments. Those petitions, covering January-March 2026, cite reductions in capacity charges, system usage charges, and incremental units. Nepra has scheduled a hearing on that matter for May 19.
However, the monthly FCA notified this week reflects actual fuel cost variations only, and for March 2026, the variation has turned out to be minimal.
Nepra said the adjustment will be reflected in the billing month of May.
