KP floods: Army troops sent to Buner as relief operations intensify

The Pakistan Army has deployed additional troops to the flood-ravaged district of Buner to bolster ongoing rescue and relief operations.

The area, which has been among the hardest hit by recent floods and cloudbursts, has so far reported the highest number of casualties, with 157 lives lost.

Army relief teams are operating across multiple flood-affected regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where specialized equipment from the Army Corps of Engineers is being used to rescue the injured and recover those trapped beneath debris.

Helicopters are also conducting supply drops of food, medicines, and other essential items to remote villages cut off by the floods.

Officials have assured that operations will continue until every stranded individual is safely evacuated and relocated. Meanwhile, heavy monsoon rains, flash floods, and landslides have left a trail of destruction across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where the provincial death toll has climbed to 328. Nationwide, at least 344 people have died in the past 48 hours alone due to flood-related incidents.

Rescue teams from the Pakistan Army, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and local administrations are working around the clock to assist victims and restore critical infrastructure.

To address the devastation, the federal government has allocated Rs. 1.5 billion for the reconstruction of roads, bridges, and other essential infrastructure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, along with Rs. 500 million in compensation for the families of the deceased.

The NDMA has confirmed that its teams have arrived in Peshawar to oversee and support provincial relief efforts.
