Karachi’s stampede tragedy, which claimed eleven precious lives during charity distribution on Friday, is not the first one of its kind in the country. Only in the first week of this Ramadan several such kind of tragic incidents reported in different areas of the country during the distribution of free wheat flour among the needy people by the government and around 10 people have lost their lives in the stampedes at distribution points. The question is that who is responsible for this? Is as a nation are we even not able to do proper arrangements to distribute flour, Zakat and other charity in the needy people?
It is not difficult for the government to make rules and regulations for those who distribute charity among the people or do proper arrangements for the distribution of free flour in order to avoid such kind of tragedies, but the reality is that our rulers are following the time passing policy and not giving serious attention to such kind of issues.
If the government do a little effort a better mechanism could be devised and adopted for provision of free flour or other assistance to deserved people of the country. While with the making and imposing of effective rules and regulations it could also be made mandatory for private charity organizations to do proper arrangements before distributing charity so that stampede and other tragic incident could be avoid.
In this digital era, it is very easy for the government to collect the data of poor and needy Pakistanis and provide them relief on their door step instead of distribution ration or other charity in a conventional way. Government should collect this data immediately and should also share it with the charity organizations and philanthropists of the country.
With the help of this data not only poor could be provided relief on their door step but they could be called one by one at the distribution points to handover the charity to them amicably.
A big fault in the traditional way of distribution charity it that sometime the deserved person remains deprived while others who do not deserve of less deserve got more than their share.
In short, Karachi stampede like tragedies not only claim precious lives but also damage the image of a nuclear country Pakistan in the world. Enough is Enough, government must learn a lesson from yesterday tragedy and take solid steps to avoid this kind of incidents in the future without any further delay.
