ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has clarified a common question raised by parents about whether a child’s B-Form can be issued using only the father’s documents when the mother’s Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) is unavailable.
According to NADRA officials, the key distinction is whether the mother’s CNIC has already been issued but is currently unavailable, or whether she has never been issued one.
Speaking on NADRA’s official podcast, spokesperson Syed Shabahat Ali explained that these two situations must be treated differently, as the issuance of a child’s B-Form depends on the verification of identity and family records.
He said that if the mother already has a CNIC but does not have it available at the time of registration, this generally does not create a major obstacle. Her identity can be verified using her CNIC number or through biometric verification, including fingerprints.
However, if the mother has never been issued a CNIC and her relevant record is also absent from NADRA’s database, the child’s registration process may become more complicated. This is because the process requires family information and records relating to the registration of the parents’ marriage.
NADRA officials explained that incomplete identity and family records may create difficulties in verifying the marriage registration and other family details. In such cases, generating the Family Number, which is an important requirement for obtaining a child’s B-Form, may also become difficult.
Parents are advised to check the status of their identity documents and family records before applying for a child’s B-Form to avoid unnecessary delays. If the mother has never been issued a CNIC, they should contact NADRA directly for guidance on the required documents and applicable registration procedures.
