PESHAWAR: An alleged incident of police misconduct has sparked public outrage at Khyber Super Market, a busy commercial area in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, after a police officer was accused of physically assaulting a sweeper over a minor issue.
A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread criticism and prompting calls for accountability.
According to reports and the viral footage, the incident occurred while the sweeper was cleaning a building. During the cleaning process, water reportedly flowed onto the road, prompting the police officer on duty to react angrily.
The footage appears to show the officer grabbing the sweeper by the hair, dragging him and pushing him. The video has raised concerns about the alleged misuse of authority by a law enforcement official.
Senior Police Officer Orders Investigation
Following the circulation of the video and the public reaction, SSP Operations Farhan Khan reportedly ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.
Police officials said the matter would be thoroughly investigated. They also stated that departmental and legal action would be taken against the officer concerned if the allegations were established.
The investigation is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine responsibility, with police officials saying that appropriate measures would be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
