KARACHI: The Seaview beach and its surrounding areas will remain open for the public on New Year’s Eve.
Commissioner Karachi Navid Ahmed Sheikh chaired a meeting and issued directives for making better traffic and security arrangements.
He instructed the police and city administration to ensure the implementation of the government-prescribed SOPs notified by the government to halt the spread of COVID-19.
It was decided that Police and Rangers would be deployed at all recreational and public places, including Seaview, and important roads and streets, especially on the routes to the beach. Police and the Pakistan Rangers Sindh presented their security and traffic plans for New Year’s Eve during the meeting.
The commissioner issued directives for taking strict action against those indulging in aerial firing and one-wheeling to o ensure safety and protection of human lives.
He ordered that all markets and restaurants be closed by 5pm on December 31 and directed all the deputy commissioners to ensure implementation of the business closure timing.
It was also decided that hospitals would remain alert and fire tenders and ambulances would be available at the help centres and camps to be established by police at different points for the occasion.
The Sindh police warned revellers against indulging in celebratory aerial firing on New Year’s Eve to avoid untoward incidents. Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Ghulam Nabi Memon said an attempted murder case will be registered against those found resorting to aerial firing.
