Karachi: Residents of Karachi are gearing up for a significant weather shift as the Meteorological Department predicts rain accompanied by thunderstorms today and continuing through tomorrow.
The Meteorological Department’s forecast suggests that the city, known as the “city of lights,” is likely to experience a substantial downpour coupled with thunder today (Saturday). The weather conditions are expected to persist until February 4 (Monday).
Cold winds from the northeast are currently prevailing over Karachi, causing a drop in temperature. The minimum recorded temperature in the city is 16 degrees Celsius, while the current temperature stands at 18 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature is anticipated to range between 26 to 28 degrees Celsius, providing a contrast to the cooler weather brought about by the approaching rain.

Despite the anticipated relief from the dry spell, the Air Quality Index (AQI) indicates that the city’s air quality remains poor and unhealthy, with a recorded AQI of 172. This ranking places Karachi in the fourth position among the most polluted cities globally, according to the AQI.
Yesterday, Karachi experienced early morning rainfall in various areas, including prominent locations such as II Chandigarh Road, Shara-e-Faisal, Sadar, Old City Area, MA Jinnah Road, Gulistan-e-Johar, and Gulshan Iqbal. Some areas received light rain, while others experienced heavy downpours, offering a respite from the prevailing dry conditions.
As residents prepare for the impending weather, the city awaits the much-needed rainfall, while concerns about the impact on daily life and potential flooding in low-lying areas are also part of the conversation. The local authorities are on alert, ensuring that necessary measures are in place to address any challenges arising from the anticipated thunderstorms and rain.
