Aftershocks of World Cup 2023 dismal performance continue to jolt the Pakistan Cricket team and the PCB as former left-arm fast bowler Wahab Riaz has been appointed chief selector of the men’s national team.
We have a history of dismissing or putting pressure on the captains to step down after failing to present a good show in the World Cups. From 1999 World Cup final defeat to the 2023 WC performance of Babar XI, Wasim Akram, Shahid Afridi, Misbah, and Sarfaraz Ahmed were dismissed or resigned after the poor show.
Babar Azam is the recent name added to the list. Azam resigned from all three formats of the game after facing criticism over the performance of the team.
Following the poor performance of the team, Inzamamul Haq, and Babar Azam resigned, while Mickey Arthur was also sacked, while Morne Morkel, who was working as bowling coach also stepped down.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Wednesday appointed former cricketer Mohammad Hafeez as the new “Director Pakistan men’s cricket team” as the team goes into a major reshuffle following the World Cup debacle.
Meanwhile, the board has also made changes to the portfolio of coaching staff.
The basic problem is how long will we keep experimenting on the team when it comes to the coaching staff and the players. There had been a strong cry for the appointment of foreign coach staff for the Pakistan cricket team and the people had been asking to appoint legendary cricketers to the PCB , who served the team as players.
We should have to come up with a strong solution to address the performance of the team because removing captain and coaching staff after every failure at the big stage is not the permanent solution to the problem.
