Iran yet to decide on Islamabad Talks: Esmail Baghaei

Iran has said it has not yet decided whether to send a delegation to Islamabad for talks with the United States.

Speaking to an Iranian news channel, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said no decision has been made so far regarding participation in negotiations in Islamabad. He added that Iran would decide to join talks only if they are deemed productive.

Commenting on alleged US actions against Iranian vessels, Baghaei said targeting Iranian ships and maritime trade in international waters constitutes a serious violation of international law, amounting to piracy and state terrorism.

He emphasised Iran’s lack of trust in the United States, stating that such actions raise serious questions about Washington’s intentions. “From the outset, we have had no trust in the US,” he said.

Baghaei further claimed that during 40 days of conflict, the opposing side failed to achieve its objectives despite causing damage and committing what he described as numerous acts of aggression.

He said Iran suffered losses, including the killing of leaders and commanders, but credited the resilience of its people and armed forces for preventing the enemy from achieving its goals.

The spokesperson added that Iran’s potential participation in talks in Pakistan would reflect a responsible diplomatic approach, but stressed that the process must yield tangible results. He reiterated that no final decision has yet been made regarding joining negotiations in Islamabad.

He also stated that it is the responsibility of the foreign ministry to communicate transparently with the public, while criticising sections of international media for what he described as misinformation. He said any decision taken would be formally communicated to the public.
