In a landmark act of compassion and humanity, the family of 14-year-old Jawad Khan, who was declared brain dead following a tragic accident, chose to donate his organs—marking the first recorded case of deceased organ donation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to media reports, Jawad’s corneas, kidneys, and liver were successfully transplanted into five patients in Peshawar and Lahore, giving them a renewed chance at life. The Medical Transplant Regulatory Authority (MTRA) hailed the decision as an extraordinary gesture of selflessness by the young student’s family, particularly noting the significance of it being the province’s pioneering case of posthumous organ donation.
Jawad, a matriculation student from Rustam village in Mardan district, was on his way to school last Saturday when he suffered a severe accident. He was later declared brain dead at Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar.
“We lost our beloved son, but we wanted to gain the blessings of Almighty Allah by helping others in need,” his father, Noor Dad, was quoted as saying in Dawn. Despite his grief, the father—who runs a flour mill in their hometown—demonstrated immense courage and compassion in making the decision to donate his son’s organs.
Doctors involved in the transplant process commended the family’s bravery and noted that this case sets a powerful precedent of empathy and solidarity within the province’s healthcare system. They described it as a shining example of how personal loss can be transformed into life-saving hope for others.
