Directed by RS Prasanna and produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, Sitaare Zameen Par has officially hit theatres, generating excitement among fans and critics alike.
The film features a stellar cast including Aamir Khan, Genelia D’Souza, and Dolly Ahluwalia.
Despite high anticipation from online audiences, Aamir Khan has opted to delay the film’s digital release, prioritizing the theatrical experience. According to multiple reports, Aamir declined a massive ₹120 crore offer from Amazon Prime Video for the OTT rights to the film.
Why the refusal? Aamir is determined to encourage audiences to return to cinemas and rediscover the magic of watching movies on the big screen. A report by News18 highlights that the superstar is firmly opposed to the growing trend of early OTT releases, believing they negatively impact theatre attendance.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first lucrative offer Aamir has rejected. Netflix was reportedly also keen to acquire the film, but the actor-producer remained committed to delaying its digital debut to protect cinema culture.
For now, fans eager to watch Sitaare Zameen Par will have to visit theatres, as the digital release is expected only after the film completes its theatrical run.
After its theatrical run (typically around 8 weeks), the film is expected to follow a pay-per-view (PPV) model on YouTube, rather than debut on subscription-based OTT services
