Chairman of the LPG Distributors Association of Pakistan, Irfan Khokhar, has stated that decisive action has been initiated across the country against the unjustified increase in LPG prices.
According to him, OGRA has taken notice of complaints and issued directives to all marketing companies to ensure compliance with official pricing, warning that licenses of companies charging above the set rates will be revoked.
It was also stated that pre-filled cylinders of 2, 4, and 6 kilograms should be immediately introduced into the market to provide relief to general consumers.
In a presentation, the Executive Director of OGRA’s Lahore office revealed that between June 12 and 18, an average of 2,000 metric tons of LPG per day was being traded through the Taftan border, while sufficient stock is also available at domestic ports, with ships ready to deliver gas.
In addition, local production continues at a rate of 1,100 metric tons per day, bringing the total availability to 2,200 metric tons per day. This data has been verified by Pakistan Customs, seaport authorities, and local producers.
LPG marketing companies have been instructed to inform consumers of official prices through their distributors at shops and to reinstate previous prices.
Furthermore, any attempts to increase prices through hoarding or artificial shortages must be immediately stopped. Companies have been made responsible for regularly supplying 2, 4, and 6 kg pre-filled cylinders and are required to issue proper invoices and gate passes for product delivery.
OGRA has announced that joint inspections in the market will begin in collaboration with district administrations, and strict legal action will be taken wherever violations of official pricing are found.
The initial effects of these measures are already being observed, as the previous plant price of LPG, which was between Rs. 3,400 and Rs. 3,500 per cylinder, has now dropped to Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 3,100. Marketing companies have also indicated that prices may decrease further in the coming days.
In this context, an important follow-up meeting was held at OGRA’s Lahore office on June 20, 2025, chaired by OGRA Member Oil, Zain-ul-Abideen. A detailed analysis of LPG prices and availability was presented, indicating that panic buying in the market has significantly declined.
