LAHORE: The appointment of Inspector General (IG) Punjab Inam Ghani has been challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC).

Chief Justice Qasim Khan of the Lahore High Court accepted the petition against the appointment of IG Punjab for a preliminary hearing. The LHC issued notices to the federal and Punjab governments on the appointment of IG Punjab and sought a reply.

The petition filed in the court made the federation, the Punjab government, and IG Punjab a party, and the petition seeks annulment of the appointment of IG Punjab.

Last month, the PML-N had also challenged the change of IG Punjab in court and the petition included the Chief Secretary Punjab and others.

It may be recalled that last month, the federal government on the recommendation of the Punjab government had replaced Inspector General of Police Punjab Shoaib Dastgir and Inam Ghani was appointed as the new IG Punjab on the recommendation of Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.
