An under-construction dam in Balochistan’s Ormara Tehsil collapsed on Sunday night, causing widespread disruption as rain and snowfall impacted several cities in the province.
Following the collapse of the Basool Dam, a significant volume of water was released, leading to flooding along the coastal highway, prompting officials to close traffic at Ormara, including a key bridge. Authorities have issued evacuation orders for residents in nearby areas, urging them to relocate to safer locations.
In the aftermath, areas such as Ziarat, Kan Mehtarzai, Kozak Top, and Qilla Saifullah were covered in a blanket of snow. Meanwhile, reports indicated ongoing showers in Jhal Magsi, Loralai, and various other regions.
In a collaborative effort, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority in Balochistan and the Frontier Corps (FC) rescued at least nine individuals trapped by the flood in the Makran Division. The PDMA reported that due to heavy rains and snowfall in different areas of Balochistan, all PDMA Balochistan staff were on active duty.
According to the weather forecast from the Met Office, further challenges are expected as rain accompanied by snowfall over the hills is anticipated in various regions, including Nokkundi, Dalbandin, Chagi, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Awaran, Turbat, Kech, Gwadar, Jiwani, Pasni, Ormara, Panjgur, Kharan, Noushki, Washuk, Mastung, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kohlu, Jhal Magsi, Loralai, Ziarat, Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, and Qila Saifullah on Friday and Saturday.
