Prominent Pakistani journalist Javed Chaudhry has claimed that the wife of PTI founder Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, has secured a deal for the removal of Section 496B from the illegal Nikkah case.
In his Urdu column published on Sunday, the senior journalist stated that Bushra Bibi was well aware of the potential consequences of Section 496B, which pertains to extramarital relations. As a result, she was allegedly compelled to accept a deal, marking her first agreement with the establishment.
The senior journalist wrote, “In this case, Judge Qudratullah favored Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi by abolishing Section 496B, which addresses extramarital relations. The affidavit of the employee Muhammad Latif, who asserted an illicit relationship between Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, could have led to cross-examination if Section 496B had been sustained in the case. Judge Qudratullah removed this section during the indictment on January 16, preventing Muhammad Latif from being cross-examined on February 2. Observers are now labeling the removal of Section 496B as a deal orchestrated by Bushra Bibi. The day this section was removed from the case marked the occasion of Bushra Bibi’s first deal. Bibi was cognizant of the repercussions of Section 496B, leading to her acceptance of the deal.”
It should be noted that on Saturday, the trial court awarded a 7-year sentence to both Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the illegal Nikkah case, along with a fine of Rs. 500,000 each.
