ISLAMABAD: Evidence of allegations against Sheikh Umar Farooq Zahoor could not be found, according to the JIT report that has been submitted to the court.
The services of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) were procured for the preparation of the report. According to the details, the JIT report has come to light on the charges leveled against Dubai-based businessman Sheikh Umar Farooq Zahoor, who bought the gifts of Tosha Khana, which the authorities have allegedly submitted in the Lahore High Court.
It has been claimed in some media reports that according to the report, no proof and evidence of Umar Farooq Zahoor’s involvement in any crime has come to light. FIA’s JIT consisted of 3 senior directors.
JIT’s investigation revealed that Shahzad Akbar, former Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan during the tenure of former chairman PTI, asked FIA to cooperate with Umar Farooq Zahoor’s ex-wife.
The investigation also revealed the fact that the legal requirements for obtaining a non-bailable warrant for Umar Farooq Zahoor were not fulfilled and his identity documents were blacklisted. Judicial Magistrate Imran Abid pronounced the verdict.
The judgment said that the JIT report is based on facts. At the time of registration of the case in 2009, Umar Farooq Zahoor was practically not present in Pakistan. The case was registered against merit and law. Evidence against them is insufficient.
Interpol removed the name of Umar Farooq from its list last year, while the Magistrate Court of Lahore has also acquitted him. Umar Farooq Zahoor was charged with a fake identity card and kidnapping of his own daughters.
