Pakistan’s worst floods in recent history have affected several, especially those who have no permanent source of livelihood.
Due to the flood, the trains working in Pakistan Railways have also been severely affected, the administration had suspended the railway operation due to standing water on the track, which is still suspended.
After the railway operations were suspended, the Minister of Railways, Khawaja Saad Rafiq, announced that the coolies, the low-wage labourers, would be given 10 to 12 thousand rupees by the government so that their lives would not be affected. The coolies complained that they have not received even a single rupee from the government.
A coolie while talking to MM News said that it is from morning to evening but there is no labor, and that’s why they return home empty-handed, family members ask when they will give money, but we don’t have anything to give them.
A coolie on the railway said about his difficulties and said that we try to get work by going to the hotels but the hoteliers drive us away, now we are just praying that the railway will open somehow because our wives and children are also in our homes. Due to lack of ration, they are very worried.
He said that thank God that there is a little bit of humanity left among the people, there are some God-fearing people who come and give us rations, but no government employee comes to help us, even to find out about our condition.
A coolie worried about the shortage said that they come here every day with the hope that maybe the announcement of the opening of the trains will come today, but unfortunately it remains only a wish. The government is requested to tell the exact date that the trains will be opened on this date. So let’s stop waiting and go back to our homes.
Coolie said that this will satisfy our family members, when they see us free at home, they will not demand money from us.
The majority of the workers working on the railway say that if the federal government cannot support us financially, then it should restore the railway operation as soon as possible so that we can earn a halal livelihood for our wives and children.
