LAHORE: Kite-flying enthusiasts in Pakistan’s historic city of Lahore have received major news, as the Punjab government has formally approved a 10-day Basant festival in 2027.
According to sources, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has issued special directions to present the people of Lahore with an extended Basant celebration at the beginning of the new year. According to the schedule, the colourful festival will be held in Lahore from January 29 to February 7, 2027.
Under the government’s directives, Kashmir Solidarity Day, observed on February 5, will be marked with national spirit and respect during the 10-day festivities. As a result, Basant-related activities will remain suspended on February 5, with the celebrations resuming afterward.
It is worth mentioning that earlier this year, in February, Basant was celebrated in Lahore for a limited period from February 6 to 8, following a prolonged hiatus of 25 years. The festival received an enthusiastic response from the public.
The government has now decided to extend the duration of the festivities to 10 days, a move that has reportedly sparked excitement among citizens and kite-flying enthusiasts across Lahore.
