SWAT: An earthquake jolted Swat and surrounding areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, triggering fear and concern among residents.
According to the seismological centre, the earthquake measured 4.2 on the Richter scale and occurred at a depth of 172 kilometres beneath the surface. The centre said the earthquake originated in the Hindu Kush mountain range.
Tremors were felt in Swat and its adjoining areas, as well as in Batkhela and nearby localities. The tremors caused panic among residents, although no loss of life or property was immediately reported.
It is pertinent to mention that on September 8, earthquake tremors were also felt in several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Swat, Malakand and Mohmand District.
According to the seismological centre, that earthquake had a magnitude of 4.9, occurred at a depth of 196 kilometres, and its epicentre was also located in the Hindu Kush mountain range.
