LAHORE: The Punjab government has imposed a 30-day restriction on the use of drones in open areas across the province, citing security concerns.
The Punjab Home Department has enforced the restriction under Section 144, although the order does not amount to a complete ban on all drone operations.
Small drones will be allowed on a limited basis at events held inside wedding halls and marquees. However, event organisers will be responsible for ensuring the safe operation of drones during indoor functions.
According to the official notification, intelligence agencies and law enforcement authorities have been exempted from the restriction. They will be permitted to use drones when required for official duties and operational purposes.
The Home Department has also established a Safe Drone Usage Committee to regulate authorised drone operations.
Individuals and organisations seeking to use drones for research or other approved purposes will be required to obtain written permission from the committee before operating the devices.
Those granted formal approval will be exempted from the restrictions for the permitted purpose.
