The results for the US presidential have not been announced two days after voting ended. The most decisive elections in modern history are going down to the wire as Americans and people around the world continue to watch in anticipation who will be the next president.
Currently, Democrat challenger Biden is projected to have received 264 electoral votes – he needs 270 to win. President Trump has fallen behind and trails at 214 electoral votes. The wait is excruciating as many states such as Alaska, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania are still counting votes and can make the final difference in the elections.
With Joe Biden appearing as the likely candidate, Trump has decried fraud and falsely claimed election victory even before the final result. He has threatened to approach the Supreme Court of USA to halt voter count but it is unlikely that the top court will have a final stay in the election process. This evokes memories of the 2000 presidential election when the Supreme Court intervened to stop vote count in Florida and George Bush was declared the winner and the world suffered the consequences.
Trump’s campaign has already sued three states where voters are expected to flip against them. In sharp contrast, Biden has called for patience before the final results are revealed. While expressing optimism, he has called to push behind the sharp rhetoric of Trump, saying that he would be president for all Americans. He has already won the popular vote and has received the highest amount of votes in history even more than Obama in 2008.
Pakistan has stated that it is willing to work with whoever is elected as the next president. Regardless of who is elected, it is unlikely that there will be a drastic change in relations with Pakistan. Both Trump and Biden have inclinations towards India but desire good relations with Pakistan. The Afghan peace process will remain on track as both want to withdraw troops and end the war.
