SEOUL: A Seoul court has sentenced a Brazilian woman to one year in jail, suspended for two years, for repeatedly and illegally visiting the home of BTS singer Jungkook and returning despite warnings.
According to court documents, the unidentified woman first visited Jungkook’s residence in December, where she spent unnecessary time around the house, threw objects over the fence and tried to insert letters and photos through door gaps, which she continued to describe as an expression of “love”.
A few days later she returned and rang the doorbell 133 times, which the court described as “extreme obsession and abnormal attachment”.
She was later arrested on December 13 when she tried to enter through the side gate while chasing a food delivery rider. The day after her release she was warned to stay away from BTS singer Jungkook’s home, but she continued to violate the order.
Police said she approached the singer’s residence 22 times in total, after which the court prosecuted her.
While sentencing, the court said although the defendant’s risk of reoffending is low, her conduct was “highly intrusive and unacceptable”.
Officials said if the appeal fails, the woman also faces possible deportation from South Korea.
It should be noted that last year a Chinese woman was also arrested for trying to enter Jungkook’s home, which occurred a few hours after he completed his military service.
