Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has criticised the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), saying that Karachi was progressing before the party came to power and that it pushed people toward “Gutka and Mawa”.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Garden Pumping Station, Wahab said MQM leaders had always promoted division and prejudice.
He claimed that before them, there was merit and development in the city, but they “took away the pen from Karachi’s people and put weapons in their hands.”
He added that the city used to be shut down with a single phone call.
Wahab said Karachi had been developing before MQM’s rule and alleged that the party was even disloyal to those it once called “brothers.”
He referred to its changing statements about Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, saying the city was now free from fear and threats, while “these people want division.”
He further alleged that those who called each other brothers had deceived their own allies.
Wahab said he wanted Karachi to return to its good times so that future generations would not have to experience its difficult past.
