KARACHI: Hamdard Pakistan has categorically denied selling or advertising its Pakistan-made Rooh Afza to the Indian market. The denial came in response to news reports a week ago that an Indian High Court had ordered Amazon to remove the listings of Pakistan-manufactured famous Sharbat Rooh Afza from its platform in India.
The orders were passed by the the Delhi High Court which permanently restrained e-commerce platform Amazon from selling Pakistan-made Rooh Afza, the famous Indian sherbet, on its site.

The court’s order came as a relief for Hamdard National Foundation, the Indian manufacturer of the drink, which filed a petition against the listing of some variants of Rooh Afza on Amazon India.
In a statement released here the other day, Hamdard Pakistan said it neither sells nor advertises Pakistan-made Rooh Afza to the Indian market as HP does not have statutory rights on the trademark of Rooh Afza in India.
The statement said that the verdict had left zero impact on Hamdard Pakistan’s business as Pakistan-made Rooh Afza had been a leading export item to more than 38 countries worldwide and was widely liked and admired by consumers due to its taste and quality, even by Indian consumers. Therefore, it said, let it be in clear that the company had not lost any business in the region.
The statement said it was their initiative and Hamdard Pakistan holds no responsibility for their actions since it has never encouraged nor supported any individual to sell its most iconic brand Rooh Afza to the Indian market as it was not Hamdard Pakistan’s domain.
