ISLAMABAD: The Airports Security Force (ASF) on Thursday has foiled an attempt to smuggle narcotics from New Islamabad International Airport to abroad and held a passenger.
The detained smuggler has been identified as Shakirullah. The ASF staff arrested the passenger during screening after the recovery of 1kg heroin.
Shakirullah was flying to Bahrain when he was arrested and has been handed over to the ANF for further investigation.
Earlier, ASF staff was imparting routine duty at the airport when they spotted a suspected passenger.
Upon conducting a search of his luggage, ASF found 3.5 kg of ice that was concealed tactfully in a trolley bag. ASF held the passenger and handed him over to ANF, sources said.
A senior officer told media persons that the passenger was attempting to smuggle narcotics from Islamabad to Abu Dhabi. He said ANF registered case against him and began an investigation.
