WASHINGTON: US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller has said that the allegations against Assistant Secretary Donald Lu by former prime minister Imran Khan were false.
During a media briefing in Washington, Matthew Miller said that Assistant Secretary Donald Lu had been asked to testify before the committee in response to a question about next week’s US Congressional committee hearing on the fairness of elections in Pakistan.
Matthew Miller said State Department officials are accountable to Congress. “We see that as an important part of our jobs, both from a policymaking perspective and from an oversight perspective, to help Congress do its job, so we always look forward to informal conversations with Congress,” he said.
In response to another question, Matthew Miller said, “We take any threat from US officials seriously and condemn any attempt to jeopardize the safety and security of our diplomats.”
