MARDAN: Two alleged street criminals from Karachi were shot dead in a police encounter in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mardan district after they allegedly robbed a citizen at gunpoint and opened fire on police while attempting to flee.
According to police, the Takht Bhai police control room received information that two armed men riding a motorcycle had snatched a mobile phone from a citizen within the jurisdiction of Gujargarhi police post.
Acting swiftly, the SHO of Takht Bhai police station, along with a police team, set up a checkpoint on Rajar Phatak Road to intercept the suspects.
Police said the suspects appeared at the checkpoint shortly afterward. When officers signaled them to stop, they allegedly broke through the roadblock, opened indiscriminate fire on the police party, and attempted to escape.
