KARACHI: The horrifying mystery surrounding the death of two-and-a-half-month-old Fatima, whose body was recovered from a rooftop water tank in Surjani Town, has been solved. Police have arrested the prime suspect, who turned out to be the infant’s paternal uncle.
Details of the Incident
According to SSP West Tariq Elahi Mastoi, the body of two-and-a-half-month-old Fatima, daughter of Muhammad Ali, was recovered from a water tank on the rooftop of a house in Sector 7-B, Surjani Town, a day earlier.
The incident came to light at night after the family contacted the police helpline 15 when they discovered that the baby was missing. During a search of the house, police and family members opened the lid of the rooftop water tank and found the infant’s body inside.
Family Questioned, Suspect Confesses
Police initially questioned the baby’s parents and other close relatives as part of the investigation. During questioning, suspicion fell on the victim’s uncle, Muhammad Hammad. After being questioned, he allegedly confessed to the crime.
Motive Behind the Killing
According to police, Hammad allegedly killed the infant over family disputes and personal grievances. He then reportedly dumped the baby’s body into the water tank in an attempt to conceal the crime.
Legal Proceedings
Police have registered a case at Surjani Police Station on behalf of the state. Further legal proceedings have been initiated against the arrested suspect.
