The Supreme Court accepted the Punjab government’s urgent request on Thursday to remove specific sections from its revised verdict on the Mubarak Sani case, following consultations with scholars.
A three-member bench led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, along with Justices Irfan Saadat Khan and Naeem Akhtar Afghan, heard both the Centre’s plea and the Punjab government’s application for a second review of the court’s February 6 verdict.
Earlier this year, the apex court had granted a petition from sacrilege suspect Maubarik Ahmad Sani, allowing the removal of certain charges against him and challenging the Lahore High Court’s orders from October 16, 2023.
On Thursday, the Supreme Court ruled that the removed paragraph from the Mubarak Sani review decision cannot serve as a judicial precedent.
