The government of Sindh has announced a public holiday on February 5 in observance of Kashmir Solidarity Day.
The announcement comes through an official notification issued by the Sindh government, aligning with the federal government’s decision made a few days earlier. The federal government, last Friday, declared February 5th as a national holiday. Additionally, the Cabinet Division mandated a one-minute silence to be observed at 10 am on that day as a mark of respect.
Kashmir Day holds significant importance in Pakistan, serving as a platform to convey a strong message of support and solidarity to the people of IIOJK. The longstanding Kashmir issue remains a contentious point of conflict between Pakistan and India. Pakistan consistently calls on the international community to address the matter through a plebiscite, emphasizing the need for a peaceful resolution.
Global attention was drawn to the conflict in 2019 when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi unilaterally revoked Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, which had granted special status to the IIOJK. This move fueled tensions between the two nuclear neighbors.
Pakistan, in response to India’s actions, has consistently stated that normalization of ties between the two countries is contingent upon the restoration of Kashmir’s special status. As the nation prepares to observe Kashmir Day, sentiments of solidarity and advocacy for the rights of the Kashmiri people continue to resonate, underscoring the enduring importance of addressing the longstanding conflict.
