Poultry prices have surged to record highs in Punjab, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi, with the cost of broiler chicken skyrocketing to Rs780 per kilogram—up sharply from Rs450 per kilogram.
Authorities seem unable to control the escalating prices, leaving consumers struggling with the financial burden.
Reports indicate that the price of a 40kg broiler chicken has risen from Rs. 13,000 to Rs. 17,000 as temperatures have dropped.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the Mansehra Poultry Shops Association has set the price of live broiler chicken at Rs. 435 per kilogram, a record high in recent months.
Just weeks ago, the price hovered around Rs. 300 per kilogram, gradually climbing to Rs. 400 before reaching its current peak. This surge has affected Mansehra city and other areas across the province.
The steep rise in poultry prices has sparked significant concern among consumers and market analysts. Questions are being raised about the underlying causes of the price hikes and the ability of authorities to stabilize the market and ensure the availability of affordable chicken.
