KARACHI: During the past ten months of 2021, street crimes have registered an alarming increase across Karachi as the police seem to have failed in launching an effective response against the criminals.
According to the data gathered by MM News, Karachiites lost millions of rupees in armed robberies and snatching at gunpoint during the first ten months of 2021 with no district of the city remaining safe from the reach of criminals.
As per the report, more than 65,000 thefts and robberies were recorded in the city. During the past ten months of 2021, more than 40,000 motorcycles were snatched or stolen.
The data further stated that 1,713 vehicles were also snatched or stolen during the period. During the mentioned period, more than 20,000 cell phones were snatched in different parts of the city, as per the data.
Besides, several other incidents of house robberies and snatching also took place when the citizens were deprived of gold jewellery, cash, prize bonds, foreign currency and other valuables in the same duration.
The number of snatching and theft remained high in Districts South, East and West. Police have not been able to trace the criminals in the covered areas including Defense, Gizri and Boat Basin of South District.
Meanwhile, Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) only managed to recover only 15% of the stolen vehicles. As per the data, the stolen vehicles were moved to Sindh and Balochistan, while stolen and snatched mobile phones were smuggled to Iran, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
