Eight children, ranging in age from one to 14, were killed in a shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, that authorities have described as a “domestic disturbance.”
According to police, the children were among 10 people shot early Sunday morning. Officials underscored that the investigation was still ongoing as of midday, and details remained limited.
During a brief press conference, Shreveport police spokesperson Christopher Bordelon shared initial information, saying that officers were dealing with a “very large scene” spanning four locations.
Police responded around 6 a.m. to reports of a domestic disturbance in a residential area. Upon arrival, they discovered crime scenes at two homes on the same street and a third nearby.
Authorities said the suspected gunman later carried out a carjacking close to the residences and led officers on a pursuit that ended in Bossier City. Police shot and killed the suspect, whom they believe was the only shooter.
Investigators indicated that some of the victims may have been the man’s own children.
Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux also addressed the incident, expressing the community’s grief.
“We have a hurting community. We have hurting families. And we have hurting police officers, coroner’s personnel, firefighters, and sheriff’s deputies. This affects the entire community. We all mourn with these families,” he said.
