There are nearly 7,000 languages spoken across the world. According to reports, English is the most widely spoken and popular language globally, spoken by 1.425 billion people.
The language spoken in China ranks second on the list, with 1.119 billion people speaking it across various regions of China. Hindi ranks third in the world, with 602 million speakers, while 559 million people speak Spanish, which is also the official language of 21 countries.
Urdu is ranked 10th in the list of the most spoken languages worldwide, with 231 million speakers around the globe.
The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics has released a report on the mother tongues spoken across the country. According to the report, 89 million people in Pakistan speak Punjabi as their mother tongue.
The report further reveals that 43.6 million people speak Pashto, while 34.4 million people speak Sindhi. Additionally, 28.8 million people speak Saraiki as their mother tongue.
Urdu is the mother tongue of over 22.2 million people in Pakistan. Balochi is spoken by 8.1 million, while 274,000 people speak Kashmiri. Other languages spoken in Pakistan include Hindko (5.9 million), Brahui (2.7 million), Shina (116,000), Balti (52,134), and Kalash (7,466).
The report also states that 1.039 million people speak Kohistani, and there are 3.337 million people who speak other languages.
