Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan is expected to take over as the national team’s Test head coach, replacing Sarfaraz Ahmed, according to local media reports.
The move is reportedly part of a broader restructuring plan by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following the team’s disappointing performances in the longest format.
Sarfaraz Ahmed, who guided Pakistan to the ICC Champions Trophy title in 2017, was appointed Test head coach in April.
However, his tenure got off to a difficult start as Pakistan suffered a 2-0 series whitewash against Bangladesh in the World Test Championship, marking their second consecutive clean sweep defeat to the same opposition.
Reports suggest that the PCB is considering major changes to the Test setup, including a possible change in captaincy.
Current skipper Shan Masood is reportedly under pressure, with all-rounder Salman Ali Agha emerging as a potential successor.
Reports indicate that Younis Khan could be handed a dual role, serving as both Test head coach and a member of the national selection committee. Meanwhile, former all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez is expected to become the PCB’s Director of International Cricket while also joining the selection panel.
