On July 1, Punjab government had formally appointed the additional chief secretary (ACS) and additional inspector general (AIG) for the proposed south Punjab secretariat, taking the first concrete step towards the realization of, what many call, south Punjab province.
Zahid Akhtar Zaman, a Grade 21 officer working as the irrigation secretary, had been appointed as the ACS and Inam Ghani, a Grade 21 police officer, as the AIG.
The secretariat, which would cover the divisions of Multan, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan, is supposed to start working from July 1.
On July 2, the foreign minister had expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Imran Khan over the government’s recent steps towards the realization of South Punjab province.
In a video statement, he said the additional chief secretary (ACS) and the additional inspector general of police (AIG) had been appointed for the south Punjab secretariat.
He said the two officers will establish their offices in Multan and Bahawalpur to address the issues of people.
