Islamabad police arrested more than 500 supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) during the protest called by Imran Khan last Saturday and Sunday. Out of these arrested protesters, 120 are Afghan nationals, who were hired from Peshawar for protest and vandalism in the capital city.
As per media reports, the arrested Afghan nationals have revealed that PTI leadership had promised them Rs. 2000 per day for the protest and vandalism.
Detainee Khayal Gul identified himself as being from Afghanistan and alleged that PTI offered him a daily payment of Rs 2,000 to join a protest and engage in vandalism
Another detainee, Mula Dad, stated that he and two friends traveled from Peshawar to participate in PTI protests.
He claimed they were encouraged to commit acts of vandalism and have yet to receive any financial compensation, now finding themselves imprisoned.
“We urge our Afghan brothers not to engage in any form of violence or damage to property,” he pleaded.
Another Afghan, Abdur Rehman, said that he was a laborer and came from Peshawar for the protest. “But the PTI leaders asked me to march on Islamabad,” he said and appealed to other Afghans not to participate in any such activity in the future.
It should be noted that the Afghan embassy in Islamabad is completely silent over the issue of the arrest of more than 100 Afghan nationals from Islamabad.
