The leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) finalized the selection of former provincial chief executive Murad Ali Shah to continue as the Chief Minister of Sindh, as announced on Friday.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari disclosed the pivotal appointments for key positions in the Sindh Assembly during a party meeting held on the same day. Among the nominations were Murad Ali Shah for Sindh Chief Minister, Owais Shah for Speaker, and Naveed Anthony for Deputy Speaker.
Addressing the party members, Bilawal expressed gratitude to the people of Sindh for their steadfast support, highlighting that the electoral success achieved was not merely a victory for the PPP but also a reflection of the trust bestowed upon them by the province’s citizens.
Who is Murad Ali Shah?
Born on November 8, 1962, Mr. Shah is a politician and structural engineer who previously served as the 28th and 29th Chief Minister of Sindh province of Pakistan, as well as a member of the Sindh Assembly.
Hailing from a Sindhi Muslim family in Karachi, West Pakistan, Shah completed his education at prestigious institutions including Saint Patrick’s High School and NED University of Engineering and Technology, where he earned a B.E. in civil engineering. He further pursued his studies at Stanford University in California, obtaining an M.Sc. in structural engineering and later a second master’s in economic systems.
Shah began his career as an engineer with various organizations including the Water and Power Development Authority and the Port Qasim Authority before transitioning to the financial sector, working with Citibank in Pakistan and London, as well as the Gulf Investment Corporation in Kuwait.
Entering politics, Shah became a member of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh in 2002, representing PS-77 Jamshoro-cum-Dadu (Old Dadu III). He continued his political career with the PPP, serving as Minister for Irrigation and later Finance Minister in Syed Qaim Ali Shah’s cabinet. In July 2016, he assumed the office of Chief Minister of Sindh.
