Jaya Bachchan is known for her outspoken nature and doesn’t shy away from expressing her opinions, regardless of any potential backlash. In a recent segment of What The Hell Navya, Navya Naveli Nanda and Jaya Bachchan engaged in a conversation where Bachchan insinuated that today’s women are “stupid.”
Seated alongside her daughter Shweta Nanda and grandchildren, Bachchan delved into contemporary dating norms. When her granddaughter Navya began discussing the idea of women paying on dates, Bachchan interjected with a statement criticizing such behavior, suggesting that women should allow men to foot the bill.
Bachchan further condemned the trend of women insisting on paying for themselves on dates, deeming it imprudent. She stressed that today’s women are discouraging acts of chivalry from men without valid reasons, a perspective she finds disconcerting as an experienced actress.
“Basically what they’re trying to say is – don’t be chivalrous. How stupid is that?” the veteran actress questioned.
However, Agastya offered a contrasting viewpoint, delving into the motivations behind women’s actions and distinguishing between toxic behavior and genuine chivalry. He asserted, “As long as your intentions are rooted in politeness rather than asserting dominance, you can’t go wrong. Performing chivalrous acts should stem from a desire to assist, rather than a need to assert superiority.”
As society progresses towards gender equality, Bachchan’s stance on chivalry may stir controversy, yet it also prompts further dialogue on pertinent issues.
