What are details of Iran’s new proposal for deal with US?

ISLAMABAD: Iran is reported to have conveyed a fresh proposal to the United States through Pakistani mediators aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending the ongoing conflict, according to a report by Axios. The move underscores that indirect U.S.–Iran talks remain active despite Tehran’s public denials of direct engagement.

Diplomatic sources say the initiative follows two visits by Iran’s Foreign Minister to Islamabad in recent weeks, during which he also traveled to Oman, a country long seen as a discreet facilitator in Gulf negotiations. The shuttle diplomacy highlights Tehran’s reliance on regional channels to advance dialogue while avoiding direct contact with Washington.

Details of latest discussions include:

1. Nuclear negotiations are postponed for a later stage under the deal

2. President Trump is set to hold a meeting with his top national security and foreign policy team on Monday to discuss negotiations

3. President Trump has signaled he wants to continue the US “blockade” of the Strait of Hormuz

4. President Trump said the Iranian position led him to cancel a trip by his envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan

It may be noted here that Pakistan’s role as intermediary has grown more pronounced amid escalating tensions in the Gulf, where U.S. naval actions and Iranian counter‑measures have disrupted vital shipping lanes. The Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of global oil supplies pass, has been at the center of the confrontation.

Observers caution that prospects for a breakthrough remain uncertain, but the renewed diplomatic activity signals that regional mediators—particularly Pakistan and Oman—are being positioned as crucial conduits in efforts to de‑escalate the crisis.
