KARACHI: The North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI) has expressed reservations over the unavailability of water to industries and demanded immediate supply as production has come to a halt.

In a statement, President NKATI Faisal Moiz Khan expressed deep concern over the lack of water to the industries of North Karachi industrial area as per the production requirement and demanded uninterrupted supply of water to continue production activities.

Faisal Moiz Khan said the entire responsibility would fall on the Managing Director Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) if industries were shut down due to non-supply of water despite indications of water shortage by NKATI,

The issue of water shortage was also raised by President NKATI in the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan who assured that the government would extend all possible help to the industrialists to continue production activities without any hindrance.

Faisal Moiz stated that the prime minister admitted that the country would be on the path of development if the industries flourished. However, the deliberate obstruction of water supply to the industries by the KWSB is causing serious reservations among the industrialists.

He demanded that KWSB officials should provide uninterrupted supply of water to the industries of North Karachi as per the production requirement. This will fulfill the prime minister’s vision of promoting industries and stabilising the country’s economy.

North Karachi industrial area has been facing a water crisis for several months. Last month, NKATI acting president Imran Moiz had as expressed reservations over the unavailability of water to the industries. He urged KWSB to meet the consumption demand of water in the industries and supply water uninterruptedly or else export orders will be jeopardised.

Water is an important raw material for the continuation of industrial production activities, especially in the textile, towels, dyeing, bleaching, stitching and other industrial units, he said, adding that industrialists will face huge production losses if the supply of abundant water is not restored immediately.
