KARACHI: The United States Consulate General in Karachi has issued a terrorism alert for upscale areas of the metropolis, resulting in the temporary suspension of all official and unofficial travel by American government personnel to such locations.
As per the announcement from the Consulate, a heightened security alert has been declared for “high-end hotels” within Karachi, Pakistan. The announcement reads below:
“The U.S. Consulate General Karachi has received a report of a threat of terrorist attacks targeted at high-end hotels in Karachi. In response to such threats, the U.S. Embassy and Consulates sometimes place areas such as tourist attractions, hotels, markets, shopping malls and restaurants off-limits to official U.S. government personnel. High-end hotels in Karachi are temporarily off-limits to official U.S. government personnel.”
US citizens were advised to exercise caution while traveling to such locations, and have banned them from using public transportation and from staying overnight in hotels in the country.
