Hasan Nawaz Sharif, son of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has been listed as a tax defaulter by the UK government.
The updated list of defaulters, published on the government’s official website, reveals that Hasan Nawaz failed to pay £9.4 million in taxes for the period between April 5, 2015, and April 6, 2016.
In addition to the unpaid taxes, the UK tax authority has imposed a penalty of £5.2 million on him, with the details of this action also made public on the official website.
Last November, Hasan Nawaz was declared bankrupt by the High Court of Justice in London after failing to settle his tax liabilities.
The bankruptcy details were officially recorded in the UK Gazette, the public registry for insolvency cases. According to the Gazette, Hasan Nawaz, who resides at Flat 17, Avenfield House, 118 Park Lane, and serves as a company director, was declared bankrupt under case number 694 of 2023.
The bankruptcy petition, filed on August 25, 2023, led to a bankruptcy order issued on April 29, 2024. The case, brought forward by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC), cited unpaid debts and liabilities as the grounds for the action.
