The Foreign Office spokesperson has responded to the case of an American woman who traveled from the U.S. to Karachi out of love for a Pakistani youth, while two men in Karachi offered marriage proposals to her after she gained attention following emotional distress from her breakup.
According to a report by national media, during the weekly briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan stated, “We have our own laws, and action is being taken in accordance with local regulations.”
He further said, “As long as someone has a valid visa, they cannot be deported. The Sindh government is taking action as per the law.” It is worth noting that the woman, who left her two children in New York to come to Pakistan for a young man from Karachi, has been making headlines for the past few days.
What happened earlier?
According to reports, the 19-year-old Karachi youth and the American woman connected through social media. Their friendship quickly turned into love, and they made promises to be together for life. To fulfill these promises, the American woman divorced her husband and left her two children in New York before traveling to Pakistan.
Upon arriving at the home of the Karachi youth in the Garden West area, she was met with rejection. The young man told her that his parents did not approve. Hearing this, the woman was left in shock. Her one-month visa had expired, and she lacked the means to apply for a new one.
With no support, she spent seven days stranded at the airport, eventually tearing her clothes in distress. Her luck changed when Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori arrived at Karachi Airport during his visit to the province and noticed her condition.
Why did she refuse to go?
The governor immediately arranged for her visa to be extended and secured a ticket for her. However, on the day of departure, she refused to leave and created a scene at the airport. Authorities also contacted the U.S. Consulate, and American officials arrived at the airport for negotiations. Officials stated that forcibly putting her on a plane would be illegal, so efforts were being made to persuade her to return voluntarily.
Meanwhile, a new video of the American woman surfaced, showing her in a cheerful mood. Entering the Karachi Airport lounge, she greeted security personnel individually with “Assalamu Alaikum”. The video also showed her joking and laughing with ASF officers and staff of a Gulf airline.
