According to details, Neelo, born Cynthia Alexander Fernandes on June 30, 1940, in Bhera Tehsil, Sargodha, was widely known and appreciated by millions of fans worldwide for her remarkable contribution to the Pakistani film industry, widely appreciated.

Neelo began her illustrious film career in 1956, featuring in both Urdu and Punjabi films with powerful acting. Her breakout moment came with the iconic song “Aaye Mosam Rangeeley Sohaney” from the film Saat Laakh which catapulted her to fame, according to national media.

She starred in over 134 films during her career, establishing herself as one of the most prominent actresses of her time. Neelo’s performance in Zarqa, considered a milestone in Pakistani cinema, earned her widespread recognition, and she received the prestigious Nigar Award for her role in the film.

Notably, Neelo was also the mother of Pakistan’s well-known film actor, Shaan Shahid, who believes that her legacy continued to shine even after her passing, as she was posthumously awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 2022 for her outstanding contributions to the arts.

At her young age, she became widely known as the “Queen of Romance” for her portrayal of emotional and romantic roles on the big screen.

Meet Abida Riaz
Pakistani nation remembers Neelo as her career spanned various decades. Born into a Christian family, Neelo adopted the name Abida Riaz after marrying filmmaker Riaz Shahid in 1965.

She made her first film debut in the Hollywood film Bhowani Junction (1956), before moving to the Pakistani film industry where she earned her place as a leading actress.
Overall, throughout her career, she worked with top actors and filmmakers, and her remarkable performances in films like Zarqa, Saat Laakh, and Neend are still remembered today.
Sadly, Neelo passed away from blood cancer on January 30, 2021, in Lahore, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire and influence new generations of filmmakers and actors.
