Sindh’s Minister for Excise, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, has announced that starting April 3, vehicles in the province without the new Ajrak-themed number plates will be prohibited.
Chawla made the statement during an implementation meeting, where he presided over discussions with key officials, including Excise Secretary Muhammad Saleem Rajput, DIG Traffic Police Karachi Ahmed Nawaz, and representatives from the National Highway Authority and Safe City officers.
During the meeting, Chawla was briefed on the progress of the implementation plan, including the need for a joint strategy to address fines related to motor vehicle taxes and traffic violations. To streamline the process, traffic police will be provided with counter desks at the Civic Center and Excise Department Facilitation Centers for a one-window operation. Additionally, Chawla emphasized the importance of ensuring the timely acquisition of new number plates at traffic police check posts.
The provincial minister further instructed that traffic police personnel be stationed at road checkpoints and called for cooperation between the Excise Department and traffic authorities to ensure that MVR taxes and traffic fines are paid. He also proposed that vehicle transfers and tax payments be made contingent on settling outstanding fines.
To enhance the efficiency of the system, Chawla urged for a joint effort in activating the online system, allowing for the immediate identification and settlement of any outstanding dues.
