President Donald Trump on Wednesday said he believes the Memorandum of Understanding with Iran “is over,” after the US and Iran exchanged strikes across the Middle East.

“For me, I think it’s over,” Trump said in Ankara, sitting alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the alliance’s annual summit. “As far as I’m concerned, it’s just a waste of time.”

Earlier on Tuesday, the US Central Command said it completed a new round of strikes on ‌Iran and that it had struck over 80 targets during its latest attacks.

Along with unleashing a new wave of strikes against Iran, Washington had also revoked a license allowing the country to sell oil after three tankers were hit by projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz.

“U.S. forces struck Iranian air defense systems, command and control networks, coastal radar sites, anti-ship missile capabilities, and more than 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps small boats in and near the strait (of Hormuz) to degrade Iran’s ability to continue attacking international commerce flowing through the international trade corridor,” the U.S. military said in a statement.

In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has targeted US military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait with missiles and drones.

Following the retaliatory strikes, security sirens sounded in Kuwait and Bahrain, while the Kuwaiti military said its defense systems had engaged enemy missiles and drones. The renewed conflict pushed global crude oil prices up by more than 3%.
