ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), the country’s central authority responsible for issuing national identity documents, has announced a major public facilitation initiative by making biometric data updates completely free of charge.
What service has NADRA made free?
Under the new facility, Pakistani citizens across the country, as well as overseas Pakistanis, can now update their biometric data without paying any fee.
The biometric update includes fingerprints, a new facial photograph and an iris scan.
Benefits of updating biometric data
Keeping biometric records up to date can help strengthen identity verification and reduce the risks of identity theft and fraud.
Updated biometric information can also help minimise verification-related difficulties during banking transactions, the issuance of new mobile SIM cards and the processing of proof-of-life certificates.
Who should update their biometric data?
NADRA has advised Pakistani citizens to take advantage of the facility, with particular emphasis on children aged between 3 and 18 who have not yet obtained a photograph-bearing B-Form, as well as holders of lifetime-valid National Identity Cards.
Citizens can update their biometric data free of charge by visiting their nearest NADRA registration office, a NADRA counter established at a Union Council, or a mobile registration van visiting their area.
The facility is intended to make it easier for citizens to keep their biometric records updated and access identity verification services when required.
