As many as 11 people were killed and six injured in a tribal clash in Kurram District near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border on Saturday.
According to Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsud, the clash erupted between tribes due to a local dispute. Deputy Commissioner Mehsud stated that efforts are underway to restore normalcy in the area.
Police and security forces are present at the scene, and investigations into the incident are ongoing. The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, a large contingent of police and security forces reached the site, collecting evidence and launching an investigation into the matter.
According to the police, the situation was very tense throughout the district following an armed clash between Maqbal and Tori tribes.
Located some 218 kilometers (135 miles) off the provincial capital Peshawar, Kurram district has seen frequent tribal and sectarian clashes in recent years. The district’s Parachinar town is one of the few Shia-dominated areas in largely Sunni Pakistan.
