Nagpur: A 17-year-old aspiring cricketer from India’s Maharashtra state allegedly died by suicide after failing to secure selection for a regional cricket team, according to Indian media reports and police.
The teenager, identified as Aditi Morieshwar Choukande, had been striving to earn a place in the Nagpur Regional Cricket Association team. Reports said she experienced significant emotional distress after she was not selected.
According to Indian media, Aditi had spent the past two years training intensively with the goal of representing the Vidarbha Cricket Association and pursuing a professional career in cricket.
Originally from Akola in Maharashtra, Aditi had moved to Nagpur with her mother to focus on her cricket ambitions.
The family was living in the city’s Laxmi Nagar area, where she was training at the Serve Cricket Academy to develop her skills.
Police said a note was recovered during the preliminary investigation in which the teenager described her distress.
Her body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and officials said the exact cause of death will be determined after the medical report is completed.
Authorities also confirmed that Aditi’s brother is associated with cricket. Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
